Water Management Tool for Lawn

MYCOSYM® Herba

A well mycorrhized lawn requires 30-50% less water.

A well mycorrhized lawn tolerates water salinity.

A well mycorrhized lawn does not show brown patches.

A well mycorrhized lawn gets less compacted.

WATER

Water availability and water quality represent a major challenge in arid and semi-arid regions.

While human consumption requirements remain modest and are satisfied in most of the cases, water usage for agriculture and landscaping needs to be managed more closely.

In many places regulation is being developed to mandate the use of recycled water from wastewater treatment plants, to limit the volume taken from streams or from the ground, or even to ban the construction of recreational areas such as golf courses and other sport play fields. In those cases water price is not the major issue, water availablity is the issue.

Use reduction is therefore an essential Water Management Strategy component.

With a well mycorrhized lawn it is known that water usage can be drastically reduced.

Data from dedicated experiments show that a lawn treated with MYCOSYM TRI-TON® and watered with 40% less water has a similar hydric potential than a non-treated, well watered one. This effect is not only objectively measurable it is also spectacular:

Lawn Water Stress

On the left: lawn without mycorrhiza and welll watered.

Furthermore, recycled water from wastewater treatment plants contain higher level of various salts and some remaining pollutant traces. A mycorrhized lawn is well equiped to face this aditional stress.

Recommendations for application

All mycorrhiza benefits can only be achieved if and when the lawn will be well mycorrhized.

To sucessfully establish the mycorrhizal symbiosis, fertilization and irrigation should be moderate. In particular, the phosphorous level should be significantely reduced (at below 30 ppm).

Not only the growing conditions will be improved, but significant cost savings will be achieved: a virtuous circle.

Application near the roots is necessary. Therefore, the treatment should be made before sowing or sodding, after de-thatching, or after aeration.

MYCOSYM Herba is our newest product, specially adapted to be applied to grasses.

The use of the powder MYCOSYM AdMix is preferable if the holes made by the de-thatching or by the drilling machine are too small to accomodate the 2-4 mm standard granular product. This powder is also recommended for mechanized application, as with the DryJect machine.
